When you read an article on North Collar, sign up for the newsletter, or leave a comment about a jacket that didn’t fit, you’re handing over some amount of information about yourself. That’s a reasonable thing to be careful about, and this page explains what happens with it.
By using North Collar, you’re agreeing to what’s described here. If any of it doesn’t sit right with you, the honest answer is that you shouldn’t use the site. Everything below applies to https://northcollar.com/ and the pages, forms, and features hosted on it.
Nobody Under 13
North Collar is a men’s style and grooming site written for adults, generally men in their forties and beyond. It isn’t built for children and isn’t directed at them.
We don’t knowingly collect personal information from anyone under the age of 13, in line with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act. If you’re a parent or guardian and you believe your child has submitted information to us through a comment, a form, or a newsletter signup, write to contact@northcollar.com and we’ll delete it from our records promptly.
Cookies on This Site
Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit a website. They let a site remember things between visits, like whether you’re logged in, what you’ve already seen, and what your preferences are.
North Collar uses cookies to keep the site working properly, to remember your settings, to understand which articles people actually read, and to support analytics and advertising as described further down this page.

Server Logs
Like nearly every website, North Collar keeps standard log files. This is routine hosting activity rather than anything targeted at individuals.
Log files record IP addresses, browser type and version, internet service provider, operating system, date and time stamps, referring and exit pages, and sometimes the number of clicks in a session. None of this is linked to anything that personally identifies you. It’s used to analyze trends, run the site, track visitor movement in aggregate, and gather broad demographic information.
What We Collect
The information North Collar handles falls into two groups.
Information you give us directly:
- Your name and email address when you subscribe to the newsletter or use a contact form
- Your name, email, and website when you leave a comment
- Any details you include in a message to us, such as your height, usual size, or a photo, if you’re asking a fit question
- Billing and payment details if you ever purchase something through the site, processed by a third-party payment processor rather than stored by us
Information collected automatically:
- IP address and approximate location derived from it
- Browser type, browser version, and operating system
- Internet service provider
- Date and time of your visit
- Pages viewed, time spent on them, and the page that referred you
- Device type and screen size
How We Collect It
Information reaches North Collar through the newsletter signup form, the contact form, the comment section, any purchase you make, cookies and similar technologies placed while you browse, server log files, and analytics services.
What We Do With It
The information collected on North Collar is used to:
- Operate, maintain, and improve the site
- Decide what to write next, based on which topics readers actually engage with
- Respond to your questions, comments, and emails
- Send the newsletter and other communications you’ve asked for
- Personalize what you see, including content and advertising relevant to your interests
- Process transactions, if you make one
- Detect, prevent, and address fraud, spam, abuse, and technical problems
- Meet legal obligations where they apply
Pixels, Beacons, and Tags
Alongside cookies, North Collar and its partners may use web beacons, tracking pixels, and tags. These are tiny, often invisible elements embedded in pages or emails that register when something has been viewed or opened.

Advertising Partners
North Collar may work with third-party advertising partners now or in the future. These partners may place cookies, pixels, and similar technologies on your device to serve advertisements based on your browsing activity and inferred interests, and to measure whether those advertisements perform.
North Collar has no access to or control over the cookies used by third-party advertisers, and their practices are governed by their own privacy policies rather than this one.
If you’d rather not see interest-based advertising, you can opt out through the Network Advertising Initiative at https://optout.networkadvertising.org/ or the Digital Advertising Alliance at https://optout.aboutads.info/. Opting out doesn’t reduce the number of ads you see. It only makes them less relevant to you.

North Collar takes part in affiliate programs, including the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com. We may also participate in affiliate programs run by menswear brands, grooming companies, and retailers whose products are covered here.
If you click one of these links and buy something, North Collar may earn a commission. The price you pay is exactly the same either way. Affiliate partners may use cookies to track that a referral came from this site.
Which products get recommended is not determined by which ones pay a commission.
The Newsletter
If you sign up for the North Collar newsletter, your email address is used to send you new articles, fit guides, grooming advice, and occasional recommendations. We may include promotional or affiliate content, always identified as such.
We follow the CAN-SPAM Act. That means accurate sender information and subject lines, a clear label where a message is promotional, a valid physical or electronic contact address, and a working unsubscribe mechanism in every email we send.
Your email address isn’t sold or rented to anyone.
Opting Out
Every newsletter from North Collar carries an unsubscribe link at the bottom. Click it and you’re removed, usually immediately and in any case within a few days. You can also write to contact@northcollar.com and ask to be taken off the list, and we’ll handle it manually.
Unsubscribing from marketing email doesn’t stop transactional messages such as a reply to a question you sent us or confirmation of a purchase.
Comments and Social Media
When you leave a comment on North Collar, the comment text, your chosen name, your email address, your IP address, and your browser user agent string are collected. This helps with spam detection. Your name and comment are visible publicly. Your email address is not published.
An anonymized string created from your email address, known as a hash, may be sent to a spam-filtering or avatar service to check whether you use it. Those services have their own privacy policies.
If you interact with North Collar on social platforms by following, commenting, messaging, or sharing, that interaction is governed by the platform’s privacy policy as well as this one. What you post publicly on those platforms is visible to whoever the platform allows.
Embedded Material
Articles on North Collar sometimes include embedded content from elsewhere, such as videos demonstrating a haircut, images hosted on another service, or posts from social platforms.
Embedded content behaves exactly as though you had visited that other website directly. The host may collect data about you, set its own cookies, apply additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with the embedded item, particularly if you have an account and are logged in with them.
Links to Other Sites
North Collar links out constantly, to brands, retailers, publications, and other useful resources. Once you follow one of those links, you’re on someone else’s property.
This policy doesn’t cover those sites. We have no control over their content, their privacy practices, or what they do with your information, and we aren’t responsible for any of it. Reading the privacy policy of any site you visit is worth the two minutes.
When Information Is Shared
North Collar does not sell your personal information. It may be shared in these limited situations:
- Service providers. Companies that help run the site, including hosting, email delivery, analytics, comment moderation, and payment processing, receive only what they need to do their job.
- Legal requirements. If required by law, subpoena, court order, or a government request, or where disclosure is reasonably necessary to protect rights, safety, or property, or to investigate fraud.
- Business transfers. If North Collar is sold, merged, or transferred, visitor information may be part of the assets that change hands. Reasonable notice would be given before your information became subject to a different policy.
How Long Information Is Kept
Retention depends on the type of information.
Comments and their metadata are kept indefinitely so follow-up comments can be recognized and approved automatically rather than held in a queue. Newsletter subscriber details are kept until you unsubscribe or ask for deletion. Contact form messages are kept as long as they’re useful for reference, then cleared. Analytics and log data are retained according to the settings and defaults of the services involved.
You can request deletion of your personal information at any time, and North Collar will comply except where a legal obligation requires keeping it.
Keeping Data Secure
Reasonable, industry-accepted measures are used to protect the information collected here, including encrypted connections, restricted access to accounts, and regular updates to the site’s software.
That said, no transmission over the internet and no electronic storage method is completely secure. North Collar cannot guarantee absolute security, and you share information with any website at your own risk.
Your Rights Under GDPR
If you’re in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, data protection law gives you the following rights:
- Access. Request a copy of the personal data North Collar holds about you.
- Rectification. Have inaccurate data corrected or incomplete data completed.
- Erasure. Ask for your personal data to be deleted, subject to legal exceptions.
- Restriction. Ask us to limit how your data is processed.
- Objection. Object to processing based on legitimate interests, including direct marketing.
- Portability. Receive your data in a structured, commonly used, machine-readable format, or have it transferred to another controller.
- Withdrawal of consent. Withdraw consent at any time where processing relies on it, without affecting processing already carried out.
- Complaint. Lodge a complaint with your national data protection authority if you believe your rights have been breached.

Your Rights Under CCPA
California residents have specific rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act:
- The right to know what categories of personal information have been collected, where they came from, why they were collected, and with whom they’ve been shared.
- The right to delete personal information collected from you, subject to legal exceptions.
- The right to opt out of the sale of personal information. North Collar does not sell personal information as that term is commonly understood. You may still submit a Do Not Sell My Personal Information request by emailing contact@northcollar.com.
- The right to non-discrimination for exercising any of these rights. You’ll get the same access to North Collar either way.
Requests are answered within one month of receipt, and we may need to verify who you are before acting.
Changes to This Policy
This policy will change from time to time as the site changes, as new services are added, or as the law shifts. Updates are posted on this page with a revised effective date at the top.
Continuing to use North Collar after a change means you accept the updated policy. Checking back occasionally is your responsibility, since we can’t notify every visitor individually.
